AI Engineer (Optimization)
We are seeking a talent with a strong background in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (or related engineering fields) who has demonstrated practical experience to conduct research & development in the field of Mathematical Modeling & Optimization.
The selected candidate will have a chance to work in a variety of business domains of Toshiba products & solutions in collaboration with other world-wide Toshiba R&D centers. The business domains include manufacturing processes (smart factory), social infrastructure systems & solutions (e.g., water plant system, disaster prevention system, traffic system …), retail solutions, digital marketing, etc.
Job Description
All level requirements
- Collect, process, and analyze the input data/information of the target system
- Construct optimization model (decision variables, objective function, constraints) for the system being modelled by modeling tools (e.g., Google OR-Tools, PuLP…)
- Solve optimization model by using solvers (CBC, SCIP…) or by self-implementing a solving method (genetic algorithm, heuristic search methods…) to find solutions that optimize system objectives
- Report results/findings of analysis, tell story about result to customers.
Senior level requirements
- Be accountable for technical solutions and lead the team to solve technical issues during a given project.
- Be accountable for continuously discovering, evaluating, and implementing new technologies
- Conduct recruitment interview, training & coaching junior members in the field of Optimization.
- Establish estimation, propose research & development plan with customer.
- Monitor and control project progress complying company process.
Education & Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, or related engineering fields.
- Master’s degree or higher at Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Data Mining, Machine Learning, or other Data Science related fields IS A PLUS.
- Practical experience as a researcher/ scientist in Mathematical Modeling & Optimization IS A PLUS.
Desired Skills
- Solid knowledge at Linear Algebra, Optimization, Numerical Computation
- Experience with several types of optimization problems, especially linear and mixed integer programing
- Experience with a variety of solving techniques/algorithms (branch-and-bound, heuristic search methods, genetic algorithm, etc.)
- Familiarity with optimization tools – Google OR-Tools, PuLP, Gurobi, CPLEX, etc
- Skillful at one of programming/scripting languages: Python, R, C/C++, Java etc.
- Familiarity with data mining algorithms and machine learning techniques (regression, decision trees, clustering, neural networks, Bayesian models…) is an advantage
- Demonstrated analytical thinking / experiences in research methodology.
- Excellent interpersonal & English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Japanese language is an advantage.
