Overview

Beside the function of development, TSDV has mission to contribute to applied research of core technologies in Toshiba products & local product planning

Recently, at TSDV, we have established Advanced IT Research Department in Toshiba. As Toshiba is aiming to become a leading company of Cyber Physics System (CPS) in which AI is one of the core parts, TSDV’s AI Center has a great mission to contribute to this technology movement. We solve practical problems emerged from Toshiba’s manufacturing and business by applying latest machine learning and data analytics techniques. Our work adds values to customer products and user experience.

Computer Vision

We work on various topics including object classification/detection/segmentation, anomaly detection, GANs, … Based on the state-of-the-art deep learning architectures and ideas, we research and apply them to solve our customers’ problems. The applications are visual inspections of manufacturing products, vehicle classification, OCR, assembly line tracking to name a few.

Speech Recognition

TSDV has been contributing into building AI communication framework of Toshiba. Typical activities include building up acoustic models for different nature languages in speech-to-text engine; we are also working on research topics related to auto-identifying speaker’s attributes through their voices, such as identity, age, gender, accent, emotion, etc.

Data Analytics

In Toshiba’s CPS ecosystem, there is an abundance of data coming from various sources: IoT sensor, machine and operator log, sale and marketing data and so on. This is a great chance for us to dig into these data and get meaningful insights that support decision making and create business values. We work on different problems from time-series prediction, trend analysis, data segmentation,… using both machine learning and statistics techniques.

Optimization

As in any industrial systems, there is always a demand for optimizing some metric or factors such as power consumption, operation cost, frequency of interruption and so on. We solve optimization problems for different systems in Toshiba from water pumping to power generation systems.

Robotics

Toshiba is well-known for industrial robotics systems, for example logistics robots. At TSDV, our focus is the software aspects of robots including control, motion planning and vision-related tasks such as object recognition.
